Reducing the roll movement of a ship can greatly improve onboard comfort, reduce sea sickness and improve safety. If a ship has little or no roll motion, it is more able to stay on course which in turn has a positive effect on the fuel consumption. Effective and well working stabilizers on board of yachts is therefore extremely important.
“We were on the way back to the Netherlands with our boat, a Jetten 50. As we were between Langeland and Kiel we encountered gusts of wind up to force 7 and waves 2 metres high, perpendicular to the boat. The ship turned out to be incredibly seaworthy. We surfed down the waves. Even in these tough circumstances, the rotor system we have on board reduced the sideways motion of the vessel down to zero.” Mr. J. Roth, owner of MY Brandaris.
“I have already experienced a great deal of choppy water and waves with De Zwarte Ruiter. 2 weeks ago, during a weekend in Rotterdam, it was the Steam Power Event in Dordrecht and as a result, it was very busy on the water with speed boats, water taxis to / from Rotterdam and very choppy water. De Zwarte Ruiter was pretty keen to roll but she just couldn’t. It may well have cost money, but it’s worth it. My wife Cobie and I are of course very very happy with it. As I said from the beginning, it’s just like sailing on smooth tarmac.” Ton Breeweg, owner De Zwarte Ruiter.
“The system has already proved itself. It works brilliantly! An additional advantage of the MagnusMaster System is that it is extremely compact to install. The rotors themselves are not large and the complete installation is also incredibly compact, it only protrudes a matter of ten centimeters or so into the ship.” Niels Tuininga, General Manager Steeler Yachts.
“Since April 24th 2018, the day on which they were put into operation, we (my wife Gundula and I) have been sailing with the MagnusMaster stabilisers along the west coast of Turkey and the Greek islands from Kos to Samos. For DMS Holland, overseeing the installation from the Netherlands of a MagnusMaster system on an existing yacht (‘Mare-n’ was launched in May 2002) located in another country entailed a lot of work but the result was worth it. The difference between on and off is remarkable, especially in waves port or starboard quarter. It takes the ‘un’ out of uncomfortable.” Dick Boon, founder Vripack.
“Why do I usually recommend people to choose a MagnusMaster rotor system? The most important argument is that the rotors are retractable. On the one hand, that’s too bad because I had a good business in replacing fins. I obviously lost that. But the customers are grateful that I accept that. Another important argument is that it takes up relatively little space on board. And that it has an electric drive. That makes installation also possible on many refit boats. One other benefit that is more for the future, for boats that are being built now, is that it is a CAN bus system meaning we are also able to connect to the Raymarine screens we install. This enables you to then completely monitor the MagnusMaster system.” Mark Bakker, Director Aquanaut.
“After 6 years of sailing on the Mediterranean Sea with our sailing yacht, we were quite used to it. It was all very second nature for my wife but now, on a motorboat without a mast and with nothing underneath, it is a different matter. When we want to sail on the IJsselmeer at Christmas and on the Wadden Sea to go to Terschelling for example. Then it becomes tiresome, always having to catch the oil lamp, the coffee cups and even the Christmas tree once we start rolling. Even I have already fallen from the wheelhouse platform. That’s when we thought, there has to be a different way to do this. After comparing various different systems, we came across DMS Holland who have developed a solid, fantastic working stabilisation system based on the Magnus principle. Patrick Noor has absolutely ‘got us on board’ in his own way. Even my brother-in-law, who has a traditional fin stabilisation system on his yacht, was particularly impressed by the powerful performance of the MagnusMaster stabiliser. In April we’ll finally there – that’s when we “get” them! I can hardly wait!” Mr Willem Brandenburg, owner MY Wing V.
“It is always difficult to work certain components into a vessel, always stretching space. And with your system that is not a problem we face, plus it works very well. The advantage is also that this is a sea-going boat but in terms of size, it can also sail very well on inland waterways and on rivers and canals and then it is absolutely ideal that you can retract your system so that it doesn’t get in the way. You don’t end up with problems on stones and boulders. Yes, it just works more efficiently.” Arnold de Ruyter, A.R. Design.
“When it comes to Patrick Noor and the cooperation with the Van der Valk yard, the entire installation, the sea trials and commitment and getting used to the system, which is needed in the beginning, we are very pleased. And with the addition of the 2017 update, the response rate has improved significantly.” Mr & Mrs von Braunschweig, owners MY Schedir.
“One of the major reasons among others to install the DMS system is that they have different lengths of hull bushings that can be installed on this type of vessel. Some yachts need small bushings. The ones that we have used are over 500 mm long and they were readily available. When we came to the point of making business they were already on the shelf so to say. Very fast, very efficient, very good people to work with.” Mr Per Johanssons, owner MV Astra.
“Our corporation is from our point of view successful. I have been travelling with Patrick quite a lot. We have showed to be successful together in the installation of those stabilizers. I think that the DNA of DMS and Balk Shipyard are quite similar and I foresee that there is a great future for both of us to cooperate closely together on projects and we are definitely on the same level if it comes to quality, service and skills. I think together we have great future ahead of us. We are ready to conquer the world, I guess.” Daan Balk, Owner Balk Shipyard.
“We’ve got to know DMS Holland through Patrick Noor of course. He was already known to us from his time with Naiad Stabilizers. A hugely driven person who always honours his commitments. And that was our introduction to DMS Holland. We also did a sea trial with the system on calm water and I have to say that made an impression but we couldn’t yet say ‘that’s the new system’. The trust in Patrick Noor has always been there and that’s why we went to sea with DMS Holland and are going to install the systems. And I have to say; to complete satisfaction.” Bart van den Hoven, Owner Van den Hoven Jachtbouw.
“I have to say that it provides a huge improvement for the handling on water and in rough water it also makes an improvement. I was very content with the hydraulic stabilisers and then this system came on the market and, according to the tests, it was even better and so then I chose that.Well, we sail an awful lot, also with friends from the KNMC. Many tours. And we also have many friends with Bart van den Hoven boats, also some of which are currently being built and that have the MagnusMaster System installed and yes, we like to and find it fun to go sailing with a group of people who are well matched.” Mr and Mrs Dücker, owners MY Rio Grande.
“We then turned the stabilizers on and it was just incredible what I experienced. The boat just remained steady and really didn’t roll, not even with the waves. I couldn’t believe it at times. I honestly even sent Patrick a message in the evening; this is not normal, it is beyond our expectation.” Mr Christaens, owner MY Blue Angel.
“In the past the boats were always equipped with hydraulics and with various hydraulic operated systems but nowadays it’s all about electrics. So for us, it was really important to also have an electrical stabilisation system, as otherwise certain things just aren’t compatible and won’t work or you need to have a lot more installation space. So for us it was a real benefit that MagnusMaster came to market with an electrical system.” Yvonne Linssen, owner Linssen Yachts.
“The owner of this vessel bought a second-hand boat a few years ago, cruised around with it, and I think, had become a little anxious about some of some bigger water they came across and this system was of course an ideal solution to improve stability. The ship has no hydraulics, so fins were not an option. It’s not a big renovation, because you’re fitting the system under the boat and I think, all in, everything arranged, installed and handed over to the customer was done within just 2 weeks.” Mr Pieter Jansen, CEO Privateer-Silverline.
“As we will be retiring at the end of this year, we will be spending more time on our boat in the future. Now we can effortlessly plan larger trips without the weather and the wind being a deciding factor.” Mr & Mrs Ineichen, owners MY Meander.
“We chose MagnusMaster following a number of conversations with Patrick and recently we did a trial with the system. What struck me is that this compact system releases so much energy; it was impressive!” Klaas Huitema, project manager Serious Yachts.
“This is sailing, this is fun. It is a pleasure and it must remain a pleasure and that’s why we have done it. I thought about it for a long time; do I, don’t but I am very pleased I did it. Choose MagnusMaster to save your marriage; it really is great for both you and your wife.” Mr de Paauw, owner MY Yvonne.
“A big advantage of the system is that it is a maintenance-free system, there is no need for lubrication and so there a service is not required. The system is certainly simple to operate, it is easy for the customer to read-out and monitor. User friendly. It is a CAN-bus system which, because it has NMEA 2000, can also be read-out on vessels’ big screen.” Auke van der Werff, owner Sturiër Yachts.
“I still have some people who sail away from here out to sea on a round bilge vessel towards Portugal, Le Havre or the French coast and yes, there you experience a lot of current and tide and once flat on their feet ask, can this be improved? Then we immediately offer these roll stabilisers because you can install in a very convenient place, so actually you can always retrofit them to a vessel and that is the advantage of this system.” Mr. Pasterkamp, owner Zuiderzee Yachting.
“We had different systems in mind with giros, with fins and the MagnusMaster system which we eventually chose because it meant we could also still sail on small water ways, could sail on the French canals where the sides are sometimes very dry and there are lots of stones which can cause huge problems if you have fins.” Mr C. de Heer, owner MY Shanty.
“On the way to Den Bosch for the installation of the MagnusMaster stabilisation system we sailed across the IJsselmeer and through the canals. We had wind force 5 and the boat pitched and rolled so badly that the heavy helmsman seat slid back and forth. On the way back we also sailed across the IJsselmeer and through the canals again. This time we had wind force 7-8 from Amsterdam to Lelystad. Had we not just had the MagnusMaster installed, we would never have dared to do have done that. Then came the surprise: Julia went nicely over a 3-4 metre wave. With the stabilisers on, the boat did not make any form of rolling motion. We set sail with a battery voltage of 14.0 volts and despite the extreme use of the stabilisers, we arrived 5 hours later in Lelystad still with 14.0 volts. We are so pleased and feel so safe now that we no longer miss the keel of a sailing boat. The installation by Moonen Shipyards was executed excellently and the support and assistance from DMS Holland was also outstanding. My compliments and congratulations to DMS Holland. We will always continue to recommend them and MagnusMaster.” Mr and Mrs Siebel, owners MY Julia
