The DMS Universal, a universal control system for stabilisers brought to market by DMS Holland at the end of last year, is a resounding success. Sales have already exceeded expectations.

As an all-round stabilisation specialist, DMS Holland is regularly asked to service stabilisers. When they found that it was becoming increasingly difficult for yacht owners to get parts for their systems, the idea for a universal operating system came about. By adding a DMS Universal, a somewhat outdated fin-roll damping system can easily be upgraded.

DMS Holland replaces the defect control system with a modern digital control system equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as a CAN bus system, a colour touch screen panel and an electronic multi-term controller featuring ingenious stabilisation algorithms. It is a high-quality built system that uses standard industrial components so that availability and service will not be a problem in the future.

“Often the hardware components of these older stabilisation systems, such as the fins or the mechanical/hydraulic parts, are still in good condition and it is the operating system itself that is dated and causes malfunction. It is usually made up of many proprietary parts that are no longer available. To replace all the mechanics and hydraulics of a system simply because of a defective control system is nonsense and a total waste of resources and existing investment,” explains Arnold van Aken, Technical Director and Co-owner of DMS Holland.

The DMS Universal is available with soft zero speed functionality. This feature, when used with the DMS Universal to upgrade a fin-stabilisation system without zero speed functionality, results in a stabilisation system that, even when the yacht is stationary or at anchor, reduces rolling considerably.

“We have jumped into a gap in the market with the DMS Universal. The zero speed option is a particularly attractive feature for yachts in the 30 metre plus segment. Two of the systems sold so far have been specified with this option. One has already been installed on a 40-metre Benetti and the other will be installed later this year on a classic canoe stern 29-metre Feadship,” explains Patrick Noor, Commercial Director and Co-owner of DMS Holland.

During the METS, “The Holland Room”, a dedicated DMS Holland area located between Hall 10 and Hall 12, will be set up specifically for the DMS Universal. In addition, DMS Holland also has a stand in Hall 12 (stand 12.915) where the company’s flagship product, the MagnusMaster roll damping systems, will be exhibited.
